3 Ways to Keep Readers Engaged

Recently, I started reading The Memory of Water by Karenic White. it's a awfully gratifying book, and as i attempted to research why i favor it such a lot, i spotted the author encompasses a manner of withholding data from the reader by creating the characters hush it up.

Her characters during this book have secrets. immeasurable them. and that they keep them from one another, typically to safeguard the innocent, and most times to stay their saneness.

The beauty of doing this becomes a cat and mouse game for the reader. you just keep turning pages to search out out what the key or secrets ar. persistently readers can stay awaken late in the dark to either end the book or get to the half that answers a minimum of a number of their queries. For me, this can be the mark of a master storyteller.

From this I actually have learned, a way to keep readers turning pages. Here ar many things I actually have withdrawn and needed to share:

1. create the characters blemished and attention-grabbing

If the characters ar blemished and attention-grabbing and have motivations (even if we have a tendency to because the reader aren't allowed to visualize them yet) then a reader can continue reading to search out out what makes them tick.

2. create the things within the story choked with that means

It is pretty obvious that the explanations characters ar blemished and carrying around secrets is due to one thing, event, or state of affairs, that has affected them in a way and most frequently negatively. This burden of a happening on their lives is what's creating the key and keeping it thus sensible.

3. Fill out the scenery and create it mean one thing

I love a book made with description and setting. As many folks WHO follow ME grasp this can be one issue I attempt to try and do in every story of mine as a result of I feel it's that vital. If you employ description and setting as a tool to bring out the colour of the uncommunicative  event etc. you'll evoke Associate in Nursing emotional response from the reader.

And as we have a tendency to all grasp, that's why the story matters. we would like our readers to react. And if you are doing this tolerably, they will. it's the simplest of all worlds once a reader says they could not place it down till they knew what happened. we have a tendency to should keep them turning pages!

Please be happy to post your techniques to stay readers pasted to the page. And if you're a reader, what does one suppose is that the tool for this? What keeps you turning pages within the book?
